Week of April 13th, 2020

Monday, April 13, 2020

Hello Parents and Students,

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter.  Welcome to your first week of official online learning.  Our teachers have been connecting with students and families all week.  As you are aware, the Continuity of Learning Plan will focus on the key areas of Literacy and Numeracy to start. The learning plans will continue to be a work in progress and we appreciate your patience.

One of our priorities, as we begin this journey together, is to keep the learning at home manageable.  We recognize that some families have several children needing devices at the same time.  Please let us know if this is an issue.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • We are not expecting you to fill your child’s day from 9:00-3:00 as they would at school.
  • Even though we have full trust in your abilities, we recognize that the classroom cannot be replicated at home.  Consider doing 1 hour (primary) – 1.5-2 hours (intermediate) of learning a day.
  • During these worrisome times and heightened anxiety, especially for our students, the last thing we want is to add stress to their day.  Please complete the work as you can.
  • If you need paper packages because of limited WIFI, let us know.  We can easily accommodate those needs.
  • We recognize that there are many factors that will determine how you are working with your children at home.  Please set a routine that works for you and your family.
  • As the learning plans are shared, teachers will be incorporating your feedback as well as providing feedback to their students.
  • Teachers will still be required to complete report cards in June.  We are waiting on the direction of what these will look like.
  • Teachers will continue to be available throughout the school day to help their students (9:00 am to 3:00 pm).
  • The format of communication and online platforms will vary by classroom, grade, and teacher.
  • School District 60 has many Parent Resources to help you navigate this new learning platform.

  • Please go over internet safety rules with your child since they will be spending more time online. (see below)

Internet Safety Rules

1. Assume any online information is not private.

2. Using the delete button may not make it go away. Think before you post.

3. Your digital footprints lead to you and could be very long-lasting.

4. If something makes you uncomfortable, speak with a trusted adult.

5. Do not take a picture of yourself and send it to others when they ask you to.

6. Do not share your passwords.

7. Do good things. Be awesome. With great tools, comes great responsibility.

Thank You:

  • To our wonderful EAs-  for organizing and handing out all the students’ belongings.
  • To our hard-working teachers- they have worked many hours organizing and creating exciting online learning for our students.
  • To our loving parents- your support and your patience have been remarkable.  We know that many of you are overwhelmed with the number of emails you have been receiving.
  • To all the parents that drove by our school and waved to us on Thursday.  It was very emotional and brought tears to our eyes.  We loved seeing you!

Next Week:

  • Online learning begins/continues.
  • Wacky hair day on Friday, April 17th.  Time to go “wacky” with your hairstyle since we cannot go to the hairdresser.  Don’t forget to send us some photos of your crazy hair.

Please let us know if you need anything or have any questions.  We are all in this together and together we are always better.  Ensemble ça marche!
