BC Sailing Association will be offering an exciting summer camp for kids introducing them to the thrills of sailing. The Mobile Optimist Sailing School (MOSS) will be making its stop in Fort St John from July 11-22 and will be held at the Beaton Provincial Park at Charlie Lake. The camp is $250 per week, includes tax, t-shirt and activity book. It is possible to sign up for 1 week or 2. NOTE: fees are tax deductible.
The goal of the program is to promote safe boating while exposing as many kids as possible to the recreational sport like sailing. It is important for youth to learn early how to act safely and responsibly around water. Sailing and Kayaking are the perfect mediums to teach the topic and a memorable way to spend part of the summer.
The Optimist is a 7-foot sailboat ideal for children between the ages of 6 to 15 who quickly learn to become the Captain of their own boat. Children will learn the basics of sailing in a unique environment focusing on fun and boating safety. Participants will learn some terminology, knots, and how to sail by means of games and activities both on and off the water. Two-person kayaks will also be used in the program. By the end of the course, students will be able to safely sail and kayak on their own! In addition to these skills, the program develops confidence and leadership in its participants. Professionally trained and Canadian Yachting Association Certified coaches ensure every experience is a positive one.
