Week of April 20th

Sunday, April 19th, 2020

Happy Sunday Parents and Students,

Welcome to our second week of online learning.  Last week, our teachers continued to develop the Continuity of Learning Plans for their students.  The plans are very much a work in progress.  We appreciate all the feedback you have given us for our first official week of learning.  Once again, thank you for your patience as this is new to all of us!

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Art Cards: Teachers will be emailing you a code.  If you want to purchase art cards with your child’s artwork, you will need to login to the site and choose the ones you want.
  • Continuity of Learning Plans: We are beginning week 2.  The district has given us updated guidelines moving forward.
  • You can expect 5 hours of learning each week (primary and intermediate).  This is a change from last week.  Teachers will be focusing on Numeracy and Literacy.  We will offer suggestions for physical education activities as well as SEL (social and emotional learning).
  • How can we support your child’s learning?  What do you need from us?  Would you like paper packages with the assignments instead of the online assignments?  Please let us know.
  • Mrs. Baker our counsellor has provided us with more options to help our students with anxiety and their social and emotional well-being.  Please see her message below.

Everyday Anxiety Strategies for Educators (EASE)

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the EASE team has been hard at work adapting EASE classroom activities for use at home by parents and caregivers to support children’s mental health and continuous learning.

EASE at Home is a collection of fun and practical strategies to help guide parents and caregivers in managing their children’s anxiety and worries in the comfort of their home during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

Our new EASE ‘At Home’ activities are now live on our EASE website.

EASE at Home – K-3

EASE at Home – 4-7

Our EASE At Home activities are in the EDUC queue for inclusion in the Keep Learning BC website https://www.openschool.bc.ca/keeplearning/ – likely by early next week

Next Week:

  • Week 2 of the Continuity of Learning begins.  Please continue to encourage your child to complete the learning activities provided to your child by the teacher.
  • While the focus is primarily 5 hours of learning per week, your child can do more or less.  We trust that you as the parent knows your child best and will know how much they can do.
  • School District 60 has a YouTube channel with a live stream for a primary read along.  Mr. Petrucci, our superintendent has read a few stories in French and has encouraged students to submit a picture to him.  Mr. Sloan, our musical producer has also read 2 very funny stories.  If you have not listened to them, I encourage you to do so.  Keep watching- some teachers from Ecole Central may make an appearance.
  • Enjoy the sunshine!  Spend some time outside.  I know I am looking forward to some days spent on the rivers!

Please continue to reach out with any feedback or concerns. If you have questions, you can call the school or email me at lcoteaubin@prn.bc.ca
